FAQ's
When it comes to shower head types, the water pressure they provide can make or break your shower. An enhanced pressure shower head can deliver a more satisfying and invigorating experience, but what is considered enhanced pressure for a shower head?
Typically, a higher-pressure shower head delivers water at a pressure of 40-80 psi, 28-56 bar, 276-552 kpa. It’s important, however, to note that this pressure range may vary depending on factors such as the state or design of your home’s water supply and plumbing system. Town water pressure maybe 500-1000kpa, caravan/RV pump pressure is likely to be around 450kpa.
At their core, high-pressure heads work by increasing the velocity of the water flow, which in turn creates a more powerful spray. There are several ways that high-pressure shower heads achieve this effect.
One common method is by using smaller spray nozzles. Minimizing the area that the water flows out of increases the water pressure, creating a more robust and focused spray. Consider the affect of squeezing the end of the garden hose to narrow the exit point.
Another significant method that also reduces water use is adding air to the water flow, increasing water pressure by bulking the stream with air which also helps disperse the water flow over a larger area.
Some high-pressure shower heads also come with adjustable spray patterns and flow controllers, allowing you to choose the spray that best suits your preferences. This can include a pulsating massage, rainfall, or mist spray.
Higher-pressure shower heads offer several benefits that can make your shower experience more enjoyable and efficient. Here are some of the key advantages of using a high-pressure shower head:
- A more invigorating and satisfying shower: High-pressure shower heads provide a strong and consistent water flow, making your experience more refreshing and energizing.
- Reaches all areas of the body and cleanses them thoroughly: The powerful spray of a high-pressure shower head ensures that water reaches every part of your body, making it easier to clean and rinse off soap and shampoo.
- Efficient, time-saving, and convenient: The strong water flow of a high-pressure shower head means you can clean yourself more quickly and effectively, saving you time and effort in your daily routine.
- Reduces water output and saves water: Many high-pressure shower heads are designed to conserve water, providing an environmentally friendly option that also helps save money.
- Some have self-cleaning nozzles: Certain high-pressure shower heads come with self-cleaning nozzles that prevent mineral buildup and clogging, reducing the need for maintenance and ensuring a longer lifespan for your shower head.
- Offers various spray settings to customize the showering experience: High-pressure shower heads often come with various spray patterns, allowing you to customize your shower. Whether you prefer a gentle rain or a pulsating massage, a high-pressure shower head can provide the perfect spray for your needs.
- If you’re dealing with low water pressure in your home, you may wonder if a high-pressure shower head can help improve your shower. The answer is complex and depends on the specific circumstances of your plumbing system.
- A high-pressure shower head is designed to work with a certain water pressure range. If the water pressure in your home falls below this range, the high-pressure shower head may not provide the desired effect.
- The minimum psi that most plumbing systems offer is 40. If your pressure is lower than that then you have a problem that needs to be addressed, and your shower head might not work well with <40 psi.
- However, there are ways of increasing your shower water pressure in difficult situations which can then help get the most out of your shower head.
- When it comes to shower heads, there are different settings of spray patterns and sizes to choose from. The right spray pattern and size can enhance your shower and ensure that you get the right shower head.
Spray Patterns:
- Rain Shower: A rain shower head provides a soothing and calming experience that mimics the gentle mist of raindrops falling evenly distributed on your skin.

Sizes:
- High-pressure heads come in a variety of sizes, ranging from 8cm to 29cm. Smaller shower heads tend to have a more focused and intense spray, while larger shower heads can cover a larger area and provide a more relaxing shower. It’s important to choose a size that matches your needs and preferences.
- If you have a smaller shower cubicleor a limited space, a compact shower head might be a better option (Jet es), while a larger shower head might be suitable for those looking for a more luxurious and spa-like shower experience (Jet Plus Deluxe).
Hand-Held High-Pressure Shower Heads:
- A handheld shower head is attached to a flexible hose, allowing you to move it around as needed. This type of shower head is great for those who want more control over where the water is sprayed, and can be particularly helpful for washing pets, children, or hard-to-reach areas.
- A handheld shower head tends to have less pressure than fixed wall mounted shower heads, mostly because the water pressure decreases when it goes through the hose. However, high-pressure handheld shower heads are available in the market that can provide a more powerful shower.

Fixed High Pressure Shower Heads:
- A fixed shower head is a wall mounted shower head and cannot be moved around. This type of wall mounted shower head is great for those who prefer a more traditional shower experience, with water spraying out from above.
- Fixed high-pressure wall mounted heads tend to have a more powerful spray than hand-held models, making them ideal for those who want a strong and invigorating shower.

If you’re looking for a higher-pressure shower head that can also minimize water output, you’ll be pleased to know that aside from flow restricting inserts, new water-saving technology is now available. This technology has produced enhanced-pressure shower heads that save water without sacrificing water pressure.
- So how does this water-saving technology work? These shower heads achieve the highest pressure by minimizing the area the water flows out from the faceplate.
- These shower heads also pump air out with the water, which adds to the pressure and helps disperse the water flow. This saves water and provides a more invigorating and satisfying shower.
- One of the best things about this technology is that it helps to reduce water usage without compromising on pressure.
- As a result, you can enjoy a higher-pressure shower while doing your part to conserve water. This makes these shower heads ideal for those who are looking for an eco-friendly option that doesn’t skimp on the showering experience.
- Yes, a shower can have too much pressure. While high water pressure in the shower can provide a satisfying and invigorating experience, it can also cause problems such as leaks, water waste, and damage to plumbing fixtures. Extremely high-water pressure can even be dangerous and cause injury.
Maintaining a water pressure level between 40 and 80 psi (pounds per square inch) is recommended for optimal showering experience and to prevent damage to the plumbing system.
- Most are easy to install and can be done without professional help. Many can be installed in just a few minutes using basic tools to replace your old shower head.
When showerheads are installed as a component of a plumbing system governed by the National Construction Code they are required to be Watermark accredited. In addition the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standard (WELS), is a government scheme developing a star rating for devices that use water. Showerheads have very limited inclusion with WELS with stated flow rates under town water pressure and conditions. To date there appears to be only one general rating under WELS and the Watermark accreditation does not apply to off grid and independent caravan/RV plumbing systems drawing water from a tank.
Ecocamel offers two Watermark accredited showerheads, namely the Jetstorm derivatives and the Svelte. The Jet derivatives are solely for supply to caravan/RV owners and any similar set up considered off grid.
